The
Durham Medical Orchestra, conducted by
Verena Moesenbichler-Bryant, made a virtual orchestra recording of my work
The Machine Awakes, and we'd love to share it with you! This is particularly special since many of these musicians are directly on the forefront of combating this pandemic. Verena did the extraordinary job of organizing the...

I often make things on the side while composing - usually "electronica-ish tracks" - just for fun. It's a great way to keep the creativity going with absolutely no pressure. I've decided to share an assortment of these various experiments, side-projects, and (mostly) electronic creations. When I speak to composers, especially at universities, I usually remind them to still "play" and not get...

Just over three years ago, Joseph Alessi and Jerry Junkin premiered my
Concerto for Trombone in back to back concerts with the Dallas Winds and the University of Texas Wind Ensemble. It was a hell of an experience, and included perhaps the most extensive on-the-fly revisions in final rehearsals I've ever experienced. I even rewrote the ending on the plane from a Dallas Winds rehearsal to the UT...

10 years ago today
Ecstatic Waters was premiered by the Bowling Green State University Wind Ensemble (Bruce Moss, conducting), followed a couple of days later by the UT Wind Ensemble (
Jerry Junkin, conducting). Thank you to everyone who has played the piece over the past decade, and in the process put up with water glasses, Mahler hammers, audio interfaces, and subwoofers. Now, go vote!

Commission Consortium Opportunity ($250)
I will be writing a new 10-20 minute work for winds+electronics+potential other elements (lighting, etc.) to premiere at the CBDNA National Conference in February 2019, performed by the Arizona State University Wind Orchestra. This is an extremely affordable buy-in ($250), and will be less than the cost to rent the work once it’s released to the...

Since 1995, I've been designing, coding, and maintaining my website myself, and it had grown into a byzantine mess of barely-working PHP and CSS held together with duct-tape and hope. Things like SoundCloud, YouTube videos, online shop, etc have all been bolted on Frankenstein-style over the years. Also, it was unusable on phones (the last redesign was in 2002!). Anyhoo, here's the new site,...

I wrote a concerto for Alto Sax and Wind Ensemble.
(open http://www.concertoforaltosaxophone.com now if you want to listen while you read)
It was inevitable - this was my instrument all through high school and undergrad., though now I only play very occasionally, usually in Austria with a community band there, and then only when there's beer involved (note: there's
always beer involved in...
