University of South Carolina goes on a “music of Steven Bryant” bender…
Crazy weekend of performances ahead! (Late) tonight, Verena and I drive down to Columbia, SC, for the University of South Carolina Band Clinic, featuring the three USC bands, the Palmetto Concert Band, and hundreds of high school students in 4 honor bands. And almost all of them are doing at least one piece of mine.
Scott Weiss and the Univ. of So. Carolina Wind Ensemble kicks the whole thing off tomorrow night (Friday, 2/18) with a performance of my brand new Concerto for Wind Ensemble – this is only it’s fourth performance, and I’m eager to hear it live, again. Sat. night, the Palmetto Concert Band and the USC Symphonic Winds do Stampede and Dusk, respectively. Finally, on Sunday afternoon, the four HS honor bands, each with a featured guest conductor (one of whom is my amazing wife), perform a number of works, including my own Bloom, Dusk, MetaMarch, and Suite Dreams. Also on the program that day are Jonathan Newman’s Avenue X, John Mackey’s Undertow, and Eric Whitacre’s October (actually, those are all programmed by Verena!). Very much look forward to working with Scott Weiss and the USC conducting faculty, as well as guest conductors James Spinnazola, Scott Jones, and Tim Rhea. And Verena. 🙂
Here’s the full list of performances. As always, if you’re playing a work of mine, please let me know! It’s easy – just submit it here.
