Yesterday, I had the great pleasure to rehearse my
Radiant Joy with the
GDYO Wind Symphony. Conductor
David Kehler invited me up to work with the group, in preparation for their March 1st concert at the Eisemann Center, in Richardson, TX. I admit I was a bit nervous - this is my first time to conduct Radiant Joy, but the band played wonderfully, and forgave me for getting lost a couple of...

Off to Baylor University today to hear the Wind Ensemble rehearse
Alchemy in Silent Spaces, Mvt. I. They are performing the work several times next week, culminating in their
TMEA performance on Thursday at 2pm. I heard them do a fantastic job on this piece last Spring under the baton of H. Robert Reynolds, and have no doubt they'll give several more fine performances under their director,...

Had a great time in SF and San Jose working with the Honor Band at the
CMEA Bay Section Conference, as well as with Ted Ferrucci's High School Wind Ensemble in Los Altos. Sincere thanks to Ted Ferrucci for organizing this and being a great host, and to Mike Gomez for coming up with the idea to begin with (and for the great visit to Santa Cruz yesterday!). Pictures coming soon on Flickr!

I just did a short interview with Doug Brown for his new
Wind and Rhythm radio show. On the previous shows, he's been discussing the new
Dallas Wind Symphony Grainger CD, so he felt it would be fitting to discuss my
ImPercynations. The show will be on this coming Sunday night (Jan. 11th) at 7pm CST. You can
listen online here. Fortunately my speaking contribution is small, thus diminishing...

Don't Get Angry and
Mouth for your new year celebrations. Recorded last May, they're finally seeing the light of day. Details about each song are available on
Salamander Studios' MySpace page, as well.

I'm in Chicago this week for the
Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic. On Wednesday, at 1:00pm, the Penn High School Symphonic Band will be performing
Radiant Joy. And on Thursday at 11:30am, the Lockport Township High School Wind Symphony will premiere
Eric's Libertas Imperio for symphonic winds and electronics. I'm particularly eager to hear this in light of all my recent work on
Ecstatic...

Zwei Komponisten - ein Ziel"Two Composers - One Goal"
Interview with Otto M. Schwarz and myself after our workshop at
MidEurope last summer. It's in German, btw. Unfortunately, you have to register to access it, but for your entertainment, here's the beginning of the interview run through
Google translation.

Finished the new piece,
Axis Mundi, for the
Japanese Wind Ensemble Conductors Conference this past weekend. The piece is a study in intertwined opposites. Mvt. I,
Apatheia, is unvaryingly soft, never rising above a
p, and opens with around 80 seconds of solo marimba. Mvt. II,
Hêdonê, is the opposite - relentless, ferocious, and rarely below
f in volume. While I have them labeled Mvt. I and...

I've just spent a packed and rewarding two days at CSU here in Fort Collins, Colorado, working with the Wind Ensemble (directed by Steve Moore) and the Symphonic Band (directed by Miller Asbill). The Symphonic Band performed MetaMarch and Rise, and I must say Rise is even harder than I'd thought - especially at the tempo and phrasing Miller took it (which I thought was *perfect* btw). Just as...
