EnergeticThis version of sevenfive, commissioned by the Indiana Bandmasters Association for the 2014 Indiana All-State Honor Band, is a study in rhythmic groupings of 5 and 7, as well as intervals of a 7th resolving to 5ths. This core idea comes from the work of the same name written for the Gaudete Brass Quintet, in celebration of John Corigliano’s 75th birthday (thus the title, rhythmic, and harmonic material).
This is not a simple transcription of the brass quintet, however. Instead, I created a brand-new work based on the same original material, with the resulting work’s duration over twice that of the brass quintet version.
